From Nurse Practitioner to Wellness Coach: My Story

Hi, I’m Catie — a wife, mom, nurse practitioner, and soon-to-be fitness and nutrition coach.
I’m eight months postpartum and currently studying to become a Precision Nutrition Level 1 Nutrition Coach and ISSA Certified Personal Trainer. I’m navigating motherhood, working full-time, and rebuilding my own strength — all while creating something I believe in.
It’s a lot. But it’s a journey I’m committed to.
Fitness Has Always Been Part of My Life — But It’s Looked Different in Every Season
I started dancing at age four and continued through high school.
It taught me how to move, stay active, and show up consistently.
In college and beyond, I played Ultimate Frisbee competitively for over a decade — chasing discs, competing regularly, and learning what it meant to train like an athlete.
Eventually, I found my way into the gym — and fell in love with strength training. It became my structure, my therapy, and my way of staying grounded.
Now, as a new mom, I’m reconnecting to that strength again — but this time, it’s not just for me.
It’s for my son.
It’s for my longevity.
It’s for the version of myself I want to grow into.
Why I Created Wellness By Catie
At first, I started this as a way to document my return to fitness and share tips with other busy women trying to balance it all.
But the more I shared, the more I realized… it could be so much more than that.
My desire to help people runs deep — it’s why I became a nurse practitioner in the first place. And after years in medicine, I’ve seen how powerful it is to create health before illness strikes.
I believe fitness and nutrition are two of the most underused tools in preventive health — and I want to help change that.
What You Can Expect Here
Through Wellness By Catie, I’ll be sharing support across several pillars of wellness, while continuing to grow as a coach, a mom, and a woman figuring it out right alongside you.
This blog will be a mix of:
- Strength training tips for real women with real schedules
- Nutrition strategies that don’t require perfection
- Wellness habits that support long-term change
- Reflections from my postpartum journey and coaching path
- Encouragement to help you keep showing up (even when life is messy)
WHY THIS MATTERS TO ME
I’ve been the beginner.
I’ve been the athlete.
I’ve been the overwhelmed grad student.
I’ve been the busy professional.
I’ve been the postpartum mom.
I’ve started over. I’ve kept going. I’ve evolved.
That’s why I believe in:
- Strength that’s sustainable
- Nutrition that’s realistic
- Progress that’s measured by how you feel, not just how you look
If you’re ready to build that kind of momentum, I’d love to walk with you.
Thanks for being here — and welcome to Wellness by Catie.
